Aged Resident Passes Away Here
Late: Martha Walker Was One Of Okeechobee's Oldest Residents --Funeral Thursday
One of Okeechobee County's oldest citizens
passed away Wednesday evening at her home in South Okeechobee. The late Martha M. Walker was born in Southern Georgia, September 15, 1840 and came to Florida in 1870, spending the remainder of life in this state. In 1858 she was married to Jeremiah Walker, To this union were born twelve Children; Mrs. Jane Crews, of Punta Gorda, Mrs. Sarah Hall, of Bartow, James and Hardy Walker, of Okeechobee, J. M. Walker of West Palm Beach, Frank Walker, of Bassenger, George and Hampton Walker of Okeechobee, Mrs. Wm. Alderman, Mrs. R. L. Pearce, Mrs. Ed. Alderman, Mrs. J. S. Underhill, all of Okeechobee. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her passing, several grandchildren and great-grand-children. In her youth she joined the Baptist Church and was a devoted Christian woman until death called her. She died January 23rd, at the ripe age of 83 years, 4 months and 8 days. She went Home with triumphant faith, as we were made to believe in Christ her savior. Mrs. Walker was laid away in Bassenger cemetery beside her husband who preceded her to the grave. |
